Date Published: 1972

Stephen Tracy Byington (1869 to 1957) was a master of at least 12 languages, including classical languages. Over the course of sixty years, he translated the Bible from original texts. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society obtained the publication rights. "A feature that led the Jehovah's Witnesses to publish this translation is the rendering of the name of God as Jehovah. Byington recognized that this name was due to a blunder, but felt it was important only that it be clear that this is a personal name."
